Coat Hook Spacing + Height Calculator
Answers how far apart and how high together — based on the planning ranges in our spacing guide (10–12″ rule) and height guide (60–65″ standard).
Planning ranges only — verify against your coats and stud locations before drilling. Studs are typically 16″ on center: if spacing doesn't land on studs, mount a backer board to studs first, then hooks to the board.
How the math works
- Hook count = floor(wall width ÷ spacing). We use 10″ standard, 12″ winter, 15″ parkas, 6″ accessories-only.
- Adult height: 60–65″ to hook center. Kids lower row: 36–42″. Above bench: 24–30″ above seat.
- Dual row: upper 62–65″, lower 36–42″, 18–20″ vertical gap, lower hooks offset halfway between uppers.
